How the adventure goes
The wind has blown the six letters of a password out of the Archive of Little Stories, and they have landed in central Madrid. Ratoncito Pérez, who knows every hidden corner, guides you as you get them back.
- Before you goForm your team and sign your pact. Bring the booklet, a pencil and water; there is nothing to buy and no building, shop or café to enter.
- Where it startsPuerta del Sol, by the Bear and the Strawberry Tree statue. Metro: Sol.
- Six missionsFrom the Bear and the Strawberry Tree to the Real Casa de Correos clock, Calle del Arenal, the San Ginés passage and Plaza Mayor. Each mission gives you one letter.
- Distance and timeAbout 1.3 km including the walk back to Sol metro, 60 to 90 minutes with stops.
- At the endOpen the archive, tell your little story and put the sticker in the passport.
Today's theme is customs: what we do when a tooth falls out, when the year begins or at snack time. From Plaza Mayor it's about five minutes back to Sol.
Questions families ask
What age is it for?
Children aged 6 to 9, with a grown-up who reads along and decides where to walk and stop.
Do we have to visit the Ratoncito Pérez house museum?
No. The whole game happens on the street and you don't need to go inside anywhere. Visiting the little museum on Calle del Arenal is an optional extra.
How long does it take?
About 1.3 km and 60 to 90 minutes with stops, at your own pace.
Is it a good idea at Christmas?
Yes, but Sol and Plaza Mayor get very busy in December and are sometimes fenced off. Go in the morning or on a weekday, and agree a meeting point.
Do we need a phone or an app?
No. Clues, missions and answers for the grown-up are all in the booklet.
