Our first adventure · Madrid
We're starting in the Retiro. Bring your curiosity; the booklet brings clues to help you see the park in a new way.

Ages 6–9 · Finding their own way
At this age, children are becoming more independent. They want to do more for themselves, take on small responsibilities and have a say in decisions.
They also need us to listen, make room for their feelings and play alongside them. A walk can give them time to try things, with us close by.
Playing together, listening and following some of their ideas shows that we enjoy their company and trust them.
On the adventure: adults play too. We put phones away to pay attention to the walk and to each other.
Naming feelings and being able to share them without being judged are part of learning to understand emotions.
On the adventure: a moment to talk about how it felt. Excited, frustrated, proud… there is room for every answer.
Growing independence needs chances to make age-appropriate choices, with an adult offering support and clear boundaries.
On the adventure: choose who starts, try a little challenge or decide when to ask for help.
Small responsibilities give children their own role in the team. Thinking about what they need and what comes next is a chance to practise organising.
On the adventure: pack a pencil and water, share out the jobs and suggest the next stop with the adult.
The plan is to have fun. Take breaks, answer aloud and leave the reflection pages for another day if you like.
General guidance for families: play and shared experiences at school age (AAP), supporting emotional development (AAP) and independence and responsibility in middle childhood (CDC, PDF).

A collection for more exploring
This is our first edition. We want to follow it with new places, new mysteries and more stories to share as a family. Each booklet will be a different adventure, with the same spirit of playing, exploring and making choices together.
Madrid · Six missions to start with.
The next destinations are still to be discovered.
Our story
We moved to Madrid and wanted our child to get to know the city with curiosity: looking closely, asking questions and trying new things.
We wanted outings where we could learn and grow together, with time to talk and no need for a phone to play. That idea became Paseo y Pista: paper adventures for exploring as a family.
The Retiro is our first chapter.
